 Title: PLANT MANAGER


Opportunity: 


Our client, a privately-held expanding and profitable custom architectural window and door design and manufacturing company located in the New York metropolitan area, is seeking a highly talented and motivated PLANT MANAGER. This person must have results-oriented experience in a custom window or similar manufacturing environment.  Excellence in managing a diverse workforce and leadership in best practices and quality control systems are also requirements. The Company’s growth requires expansion and advancements in the manufacturing process while providing flexibility and attention to the individualized detail of a custom job shop without loss of the craftsmanship which has exemplified the Company for over 20 years.


 

The PLANT MANAGER will lead the manufacturing department, addressing the Company’s unique market niche in fenestration specializing in high performance, high value energy efficient fenestration for distinctive residential, specialized commercial and demanding historic window projects.  We are not a “commodity” manufacturer.  S/he will lead the growth of the Company through the exercise of continuing product development and the implementation of zero defect and lean process manufacturing systems supported by our customer-oriented sales, operations and customer service departments.

 

General Responsibilities:




  • Report to the President and assume responsibility for managing all aspects of the manufacturing department.

  • Manage daily manufacturing operations, leading a staff of 40 to deliver and exceed performance metrics in quality, customer service, costs, inventory management and new product launches.

  • Recommend manufacturing goals and objectives to the President; provide leadership andvision to accomplish same.

  • Act as the custodian and advocate of the brand of door and window products and assume responsibility for on-time delivery, quality and costs.

  • Ensure that proper procedures and practices, documentation, training and audits are in place to ensure adherence to standardized procedures.

  • In partnership with sales, engineering, customer service, installation and finance departments, resolve cross-departmental issues effectively.

  • Create an environment of continuous improvement and accountability for daily operations.  Lead the evaluation of the effectiveness of processes and address inefficiencies.

  • Effectively manage direct reports and delegate key responsibilities.  Lead the staffing and development of personnel to strengthen their capabilities.

  • In conjunction with the finance department, develop quarterly and annual departmental budgets.

  • In partnership with product development, support new design initiatives.

  • Ensure that corrective measures are taken for not performing to required standards.  Manage the resolution of work related problems within the department and take disciplinary action as required within the context of Company policies and organizational culture.

  • Manage purchases of inventory and raw materials as well as labor and production costs based on budgets and established objectives.

  • Maintain manufacturing facilities, equipment and machinery to high standards in compliance with all health, safety and building code regulations.

  • Effectively communicate in a multi-language environment, creating a motivated staff committed to achieving the Company’s objectives.




Relevant Experience and Skills:

 




  • Currently serving as a PLANT MANAGER or SENIOR PRODUCTION SUPERVISOR of a successful, high-growth, manufacturing company.

  • Proven track record of success and a passion for leading an established company through sustained growth.  Results oriented yet flexible.

  • Project management skills; follow-through and goal oriented.

  • Consistent career history exhibiting strong, effective leadership and team building skills; effective working in a culturally diverse environment.

  • Demonstrated ability in recruiting, developing and managing personnel to achieve desired goals.

  • Proven skills in influencing, cooperation and negotiation, and the ability to use them effectively.

  • "Hands-on" management style with the interpersonal skills required to build a successful team and the desire to motivate, inspire and develop employees.

  • Possess high intelligence with effective analytical and problem-solving skills.

Requirements:





  • 10 – 15+ years experience in manufacturing roles including 5+ years in senior management or supervisory roles.  Knowledge of custom product manufacturing a plus.

  • Experienced and comfortable using Microsoft Office Suite including Excel.

  • BA/BS degree.  MBA/MA a plus.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.

  • Experience with budgeting and quality systems.
