Roy E. Whitehead began as a second-generation woodworker. He gained experience working with his father for local millwork companies. In 1955, he started his own cabinet/woodworking manufacturing and supply company. In the beginning, Roy and Co. experienced much success in running government and other institutional projects which included schools, banks, hospitals, and courthouses. Much of Roy's assistance in those early years came from his three sons David, Jerry and Dennis who would help out after school and in the summer.
With the 1960's came continued success. Increasing the crew size, the company began to grow and after earning a B.S. Degree in Industrial Engineering, David came on as a full time office employee. Jerry had received training in business and Dennis had earned journeyman status through the state apprentice training program. In 1968, the company incorporated as Roy E. Whitehead, Inc. with Roy, David, Jerry and Dennis as officers, shareholders and directors.
The 1980's proved to be adventuresome as highly mechanized manufacturing companies moved into the market. For the first time in history the company exceeded $3 million in annual revenue and Roy retired. During this time of increased usage of computerized manufacturing equipment the company began to see change in its product mix. While continuing in largely repetitive production jobs such as schools, Roy E. Whitehead Inc. also found a niche in more specialized custom work. This necessitated a move which brought the company to a new 20,000 sqft. manufacturing facility.
By the 1990s, their focus on doors, frames and hardware resulted in business being doubled. With the new millennium, Roy E. Whitehead, Inc. continued to grow, increasing its presence in glass and glazing with the developmnent of a full glass and glazing department; production increased to $15 million in one year.
With its new 32,500 sqft. facility and office full of college graduates, Roy E, Whitehead, Inc. is positioned to serve the industry with top quality custom cabinets, millwork, doors, frames, hardware, glass and glazing--which are installed by union employees. Roy E. Whitehead, Inc. continues to remain scalable while moving strongly into the future.
